RENTHALR6 10-31-2005, 04:47 PM Hey I read your post.........Where are you from that requires you to put a restrictor kit on your bike? What state are you from?........Dude today is my one year anniversary with my bike and during this long year that I have had my bike I have no motorcycle license, no registration, no insurance or anything. Not proud to say it, but if you obey the street law you should be okay. Usually cops wave @ me the majority of the time but when the attempt to pull me over I book it because if I dont then my bike is gone. :o
burnrubber 11-01-2005, 04:06 AM well that sounds like a sh!tty idea. i ve never heard of putting a resrictor kit on either thoug, that sounds funny. insurance depends on where your from, just go ask for a quote, see what they say. ask a bike-shops service dept if they have ever put a restrictor kit on and how much it is, how much is it for them to install it, then talk to the parts dept and ask if you can do it yourself easily.
chefplotty 11-01-2005, 05:49 AM im from the uk. so if i take ma full license i ave 2 wait till 21 till i can ride neting over 125cc or 40bhp. i absolutely love the r6 and would love to ride it so by makin it legal mite b the best thing. as for wot RENTHALR6 said i cant really do that.
i spose there is always the possiblity of goin to a dyno centre and seeing wot they can do!
brhynard 11-01-2005, 06:38 PM well i am 17 but i definetally dont got no restrictor kit on my bike, nor do i know anything about them. I got a 2000 R6 that had some minor stuff wrong with it for $3500. I would imagine UK insurance is a little different though so you may wanna figure that out yourself. And if i were you i wouldnt pull a renthal R6.
bobbins 11-03-2005, 07:39 AM I'm from the UK and had a restrictor kit fitted to a GSXR-600 a few years ago. If you get one of the older R6s, it'll have carbs. Carb'd bikes tend to be restriced by inserting big washers into the throttle bodies. They're easy to remove. Should only take about 15 mins and any fool can do it.
My advice is, if you plan to keep the restriction get an Aprillia RS125 and enjoy it at full power. You'll gain far more in terms of riding ability.
The R6 is a great bike but the restriction will kill it dead. There's no point in carrying the extra weight without the power.
chefplotty 11-03-2005, 08:25 AM thanks a lot for that. i mite just start 2 save and dream for a couple of years till i can get it at full power then :D btw are there ne r6 forums from uk sites? cant seem 2 find ne
burntout 11-04-2005, 02:02 AM not that I know of mate.
I'm flying the flag on this one so stay with it!!
AndyR604 11-05-2005, 06:09 AM buy a 2-stroker and get some miles under your belt mate... you learn a whole lot more about riding and technique and get to use all the power, as well as knowing what UK Car Drivers can and WILL do to ya!.
Buy a 6 later when you CAN get insurance. The 6 bites back hard if abused
just my $0.02
RENTHALR6 11-11-2005, 01:20 PM THE POST ABOVE THIS ONE WAS WRITTEN BY A POSER IN MY EYES SO I WOULDNT LISTEN TO THAT GUY AT ALL. LIKE I SAID THE FIRST TIME I RODE A STREET BIKE WAS THE DAY BEFORE I BOUGHT MY BIKE. YOU DONT NEED TO FU*KEN START ON A 2-stroker and get some miles under your belt mate.. ALL YOU HAVE TO DO I JUST TAKE IT SLOW AND ASK QUESTIONS IF YOU HAVE THEM. JUST REALIZE THAT EVEYBODY GOES DOWN. BY YOUR INTEREST IN GETTING A STREET BIKE AND ASKING QUESTIONS YOU SEEM TO BE SMART, SO I REALLY DONT THINK YOU HAVE TO START ON A "2-stroker and get some miles under your belt mate".......SORRY FOR THE SMART A$$ COMMENT BUT I CANT STAND GUYS WHO THINK THEIR VALENTINO ROSSI "MATE". HA HA HA LOL LOL.

I aint no poser (too skint)   (and certainly no Valentino Rossi  ) i just like to ride street, safe and speed for the twistes. Everyone entitled to their own opinion (including renthalr6), but to be honest, taking advice from someone without a licence, insurance and very little experience is... ...well entirely up to you...
RenthalR6 just because u dont like to be told about your own failings and shortcomings, dont start dissin my posts which are here as advice and help to those who are looking for it.. Its all too easy to diss anyone these days, but it aint constructive. and the forum is here to be CONSTRUCTIVE and helpful.. It mite be better if found another outlet for you rants!
NTFireFighter 11-13-2005, 06:14 AM RENTHALR6 chill out, this forum is not to make other people look bad its a forum to help people who have R6's. You can put your own opinion up about something that somewone wrote but dont try to bring them down doing it.
If you have a problem with someone or take a personal ofense against someone or what they said then you can contact me under the member list on the top of the page.

burntout 11-23-2005, 02:01 AM The facts are that restricting the R6 to 33bhp (not 40) is a waste of time.
It'll be like having a heavy stroker, it'll handle and look good but you'll have no power and you'll get creamed by anyone on an RS or VFR etc.
Best bet, taken from experience, get an RVF/VFR400, get used to riding and get some no claims bonus.
Otherwise you're going to pay through your ear for insurance as well as looking like a d1ckhead on a restricted R6.
HOWEVER.......When I was 17 I had a Kawasaki KR1-S which was of course meant to be restricted....think it stayed that way for all of 10 minutes before I released the full 60bhp. I got stopped by the police and they weren't even aware it was meant to be restricted so I was lucky.
If they did give me a producer I would have just put them back in.
I don't endorse this idea though!!
Save your money and skin, lose the dillusions of grandeur and get something smaller.
Oh yeah, you're looking for at least £3000 for a decent one + £1000 for insurance I should have thought. Money to burn?
alloutracing3kgt 11-23-2005, 07:27 AM The several posts above suggesting to buy a smaller, lighter, non-restricted bike are definitely the way to go. The less weight alone will make your bike faster and with the extra money you will have from not buying/making a restricted R6 you can spend it on subtle mods for your 125 8)
